Jim Trantham a well-known instrument builder and ballad singer from Haywood County is the featured artist for the 2010 Fall Fundraiser event honoring Mountaintop Healthcare and the Good Samaritan Clinic. Mr. Trantham has made hundreds of mountain dulcimers over the years. They are all very high quality instruments. "Most of our instruments are made by my Dad including the banjo mountain dulcimer and hammer dulcimer" explained Doug Trantham. "We are working to preserve our musical and cultural heritage in Western North Carolina. We especially enjoy using our music for Christian worship in our church and community."
Mr. Trantham created this mountain dulcimer especially for the silent auction that will be held during dinner on Saturday September 18th at the Laurel Ridge Pavilon. This particular instrument took two days to make and is dated March 10 2010. Mr. Trantham actually said "It took two days and 50 years to make the instrument" based on the many years of learning and perfecting the craft.
Upon closer look you will notice that this hand-crafted dulcimer features the dogwood flower. This flower is hand-carved into the instrument. You can see it has an open sound hole on the bottom of the fret board which is one of Jim's innovations. It has beautiful relief carving and dogwood inserts in the sound holes. This instrument is a beautiful work of art that can be passed down for generations.

| Completely self taught Mike's painting is refreshingly different. Working on new subjects and media in his Scottish studio he frequently returns to African wildlife art to "feed the soul" and frequently reconnects with the fellow artists over there. Although embracing his new country the African roots are very strong and he has no great desire to shake that dust from his boots.

American journalist and adventurer who took New York Herald's mission "to go and find Livingstone". In his diary HOW I FOUND LIVINGSTONE (1872) Stanley presents his story with stoicism without magnifying his epic adventure of hardships of the journey. He traveled 700 miles in 236 days before he found the ailing Scottish missionary-explorer David Livingstone on the island of Ujiji. At meeting Livingstone Stanley tried to hide his enthusiasm and uttered his famous pompous greeting "Doctor Livingstone I presume!"
Stanley‘s account of his journey to the sources of the Nile THROUGH THE DARK CONTINENT (1878) is one of the novels featured in this collection.

| Victor Armstrong was born in Austin Texas where he still resides and maintains studios in the hill country west of the city. Mr. Armstrong handles several mediums with distinctive freshness and strong rhythmic brushstrokes. Over the years more than 2000 art students have attended his workshops and seminars including his "Painting in the Park" workdays sponsored by the Rocky Mountain National Park.
